Over the last few days we have been quite busy. Joan has been working nearly around the clock, we made an overnight trip to Misawa to finalize quite a few things on base and as always Stone is requiring more hands on time and attention as he continues to develop.
The trip to Misawa consisted of shopping (always picking up a few bulk items when on base), finally getting Stone and me registered on base (I have an ID card now, allowing me access to base without Joan - primarily for Stone's appointments over time), getting Joan and me "officially" registered as licensed drivers in Japan, getting registered at the hospital on base so that we can receive care as a family, getting the vehicle title transfer for the car we purchased for Stone and me, getting that vehicle insured and probably another five things I am forgetting ...
Thus the moment I was legal to drive, Joan gladly handed the keys over! The first few moments do feel strange ... being on the other side of the car and on the other side of the road. However, by the time we got home yesterday (about a two and a half hour drive across the island) it felt rather normal.
In our region the apple trees have blossomed and are leafing, the cherry tree blossoms have all dropped and the rice paddies are being planted and flooded. Green abounds on the hillsides and in every place something can grow - so needless to say it is quite stunning to simply be in such a varied and growing landscape. I plan to get out soon and get a few shots of the freshly planted pools of rice.
We placed an order for a few things from the bike shop, a bike for Joan to use for commuting to and from work, a utility bike for me to get groceries and this will also be the bike that I use to drag Stone around in the trailer that we ordered ... So within a month Stone should be getting to see the world while bouncing along behind me!
We plan to start Stone on rice cereal this weekend - so here we go with solids!
